Canada's AlphaTrade.com has introduced
new software that enables users to move a "streaming" stock quote ticker
directly from the Web to their desktop computer. Called AlphaTicker, the
application can reside on a desktop without being downloaded, the only
such Internet tool with this capability, the company says.
Unlike other stock tickers, which
work by electronically polling stock exchanges for quote updates, AlphaTicker
provides a live flow of data. The software loads stock information as
it executes, which avoids lengthy downloads, according to AlphaTrade.
Vancouver, British Columbia-based
AlphaTrade will incorporate the securities data tool into its new E-Gate
financial services portal, which is slated to launch this summer. Along
with streaming quotes, the gateway, which will be available for private-label
licensing, will offer word processing, spreadsheets, streaming video and
other services.
