Janes Goes The Distance, Scores First ADRL Win In Norwalk

(8-25-2007) NORWALK, OH – Mother Nature tried her best Saturday, but the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League's inaugural ADRL Chevy Drags were eventually able to crown four champions to conclude a spectacular weekend of eighth-mile racing.

David Janes, of LaPlata, Missouri, driving the AlphaTrade.com-backed Pontiac Grand Am in the ADRL's Pro Extreme 10.5 category scored his first career ADRL event win with a clear final-round victory over Bill Jewett in the final round, 4.52-seconds to 4.95. Janes won from the bump spot, qualifying No. 8 and then upsetting top qualifier Steve Gorman in the first round of eliminations.

"We overcame a lot of adversity this weekend," explained Janes in a post race interview with network television's Outdoor Channel. "A little bit of luck and a lot of hard work was the winning combination for us as we've struggled all weekend. We'd only just begun testing these new 10.5W tires and hadn't near the time necessary to really establish a baseline, but came out here and just nursed the car down the track."

Janes continued, "On Friday we tried to use the open testing to gain some data, but kept overpowering the track on every attempt. We kept taking power out of the car until we finally got down and then started to creep back up on it. Racing on these small 10.5-inch wide tires is all about finesse and my crew chief, Wes Buck, made the right calls on the tune-up to get the car from A to B under full power."

The Speedtech Nitrous equipped Pontiac Grand Am, driven and built by Janes, proved more than adequate at this level of competition recording a 4.60-second pass in the second round of eliminations at an ADRL record-breaking 171.65mph over the 1/8th of a mile.

With his first career professional win, Janes looks towards the future with high expectations.

"We've got ourselves in the points chase now and if we can go out and do anything respectable at the next race we'll have a spot reserved for us in the AlphaTrade.com Battle for the Belts World Championship in Dallas, Texas. We've got a long ways to go to be where we want to be, but we've got a great team in Wes Buck, Reco Willingham, Dennis Hagedorn and Gordon Muir and I look for a good finish to the season. There are no guarantees in heads-up drag racing, but we'll stay focused on the task at hand, winning rounds and gaining points, and hope for the best."

For David Janes, this first win in the fast-growing 10.5-tire category of the American Drag Racing League marks the beginning of many new things including the involvement of several new sponsors including AlphaTrade.com, Drag Illustrated Magazine, David Janes Race Cars, Taylor Motorsports, Speedtech Nitrous, WIL-HAM Trucking.

Next up for the ADRL is the Eastern Race Fuels Dragstock IV event, which will set the fields for the AlphaTrade Battle for the Belts world championship eliminators.
