To bring up a chart:

  1. Enter the symbol (e.g. INTC) into the symbol field. Use "ca;" before Canadian symbols. (e.g. CA;NT) Learn more about Symbol Entry
  2. Select the time interval from the pull-down menu. The charting product supports intraday, daily and weekly charts. Intraday charts can be either non-tic (charts built on historical summaries) or tic (charts built on historical summaries and Level I data).
To change the type of chart:

  1. Right click on the charting area to open a menu
  2. Move your mouse over 'Charts', a sub-menu pops up.
  3. Click on the type of chart you want to see (e.g. Candlestick)
The following types of charts are offered:

  • HLC - showing high, low, and close values
  • OHLC - open, high, low, and close values
  • Candlestick
  • High Bar - a bar chart to the high values
  • Close Line - a line chart connecting the close values
  • Dot - plotting just the close values
  • Performance - show how the stock performed against itself over time
  • Relative performance - comparing the performance of more than one stock (enter more than one stock at a time in the Symbol field and separate with commas)
To compare more than one security with a relative performance chart

  1. Enter more than one symbol into the symbol field, separated by commas
  2. Select the time interval

Although relative performance charting is enabled by default when you select more than one symbol to chart, you are free to change the type of chart any time to something more conventional, say an OHLC chart.

To switch between Securities (symbols) when charting more than one symbol at the same time

  1. Right Click
  2. Move your mouse over 'Symbols'
  3. Select the symbol you want to see
Zooming

  1. Right Click
  2. Select Zoom > Zoom In
  To zoom out press the (-) button or
  1. Right Click
  2. Select Zoom > Zoom Out
Scrolling

Resizing

  1. Move your mouse pointer over the boundary of the price panel and volume panels
  2. When the cursor turns into an up-down arrow, press and hold the mouse button
  3. Drag the boundary up or down so that the price and volume panels are resized accordingly
  4. Release when you are satisfied

To resize volume panels only

  1. Move your mouse pointer over the boundry of any 2 volume panels
  2. When the cursor turns into an up-down arrow, press and hold the mouse button
  3. Drag the boundary up or down so that the volume panels are resized
  4. Release when you are satisfied
  5. If a vertical scroll bar appears, use it to view the hidden volume panels

To resize the whole charting window, drag one of 4 charting window corners as you would on other windows applications.

Our default setting for the chart includes a price panel on top and 2 volume panels underneath it. The price panel comes with Simple Moving Average indicator with 3 sets of periods, 5 10 and 20. The 1st volume panel displays volume only, the 2nd one has the indicator of MACD, with 1 set of period parameter (fast - 12, slow - 26, signal - 9)

You can customize the charting to have up to 12 volume panels with different indicators of your chioce.

  1. Right click
  2. Select 'Analyses'
Click here for a full size image This will bring up a dialogue box for chart configuration. To configure:
  1. From the left column check/uncheck volume panels to show/hide them. By default, the price panel is always checked
  2. While clicking on a certain panel to highlight it, all available indicators for that panel are shown in the central column.
  3. From the central column check/uncheck indicators to show/hide them
  4. While clicking on a certain indicator (e.g. Moving Averages) to highlight it, all available parameters for that indicator are shown in the right column, where you can customize up to 3 sets of the number of periods that are covered in the indicator's calculation to fit the market cycle the indicator follows (e.g. if a stock tends to follow a 200 day cycle in its value, the Moving Average chart should be expressed in a 200 day period.)
  5. Click on 'OK' to confirm the configuration
Recommendations  
Click here for a full size image With some types of indicators, such as Moving Averages, you can choose to show/hide recommendations for trading:
  1. Right click
  2. To show recommendations, select one of the indicators that are recommendation-enabled, such as Moving Averages and MACD.
  3. To hide recommendations, select 'Hide Recommendations'
Click here for a full size image The recommended signals are a series of arrows, red arrows facing down, are sell signals, while green arrows facing up, are buy signals. By default, all recommendations are hidden.
Draw Tools: Trend Lines
Click here for a full size image To draw a trend on either price or volume panel:
  1. Right-click, go to 'Draw Tools' and select 'Draw Trends'
  2. Click the mouse button to select the start of the trend line
  3. Drag the mouse pointer to move the end of the trend line
  4. Release the mouse button to select the end of the trend line
For greater accuracy, you can note the current value of under the cross hairs when placing trends.
Click here for a full size image You can adjust trend lines even after you have placed them, so do not worry initially about getting things perfect:
  1. Move the mouse pointer over the middle of the trend line
  2. When the cursor turns into a hand, click and hold the mouse button
  3. Move the trend vertically and horizontally until you are happy and release
Click here for a full size image Additionally, it is possible to adjust the end points of a trend:
  1. Move the mouse pointer over an endpoint of a trend line
  2. When the cursor turns into a hand, click and hold the mouse button
  3. Move the endpoint until you are happy and release
Click here for a full size image In the meantime, if you make a mistake that you cannot correct when placing trend lines, there is an option to delete trends:

To delete a specific trend line:

  1. Point you mouse to the line you want to delete until it is highlighted
  2. Right Click
  3. Select 'Draw Tools' then 'Delete Selected'

You can also delete a trend by clicking and dragging the trend line off the price or volume panel.

To delete all trend lines:

  1. Right Click
  2. Select 'Draw Tools' then 'Delete All'
Draw Tools: Fibonacci Tools
Click here for a full size image You can also use Fibonacci Tools to draw trends on the charts. These include Fibonacci Arcs, Fans, Retracements, and Time Zones. These are all available under the 'Draw Tools' menu. Fibonacci tools are drawn by first drawing a trend line from a peak to a trough or vice versa. Then Fibonacci numbers are used to predict support and resistance levels.
Changing Colors
Click here for a full size image You have the option of changing the color scheme:
  1. Right Click
  2. Move mouse to 'Change Colors'
  3. Select one of the color schemes from the list, where the upper group are dark colors and the lower group are light colors.
For your printer to save ink, we feel the color scheme 'Polar Freeze' is the best.
Custom Colors
Click here for a full size image If you wish to customize the colors on your chart, for example, what color down tick candles are, etc, select the 'Customize' option on the 'Change Colors' submenu. On the panel that appears, in the left column, select what item you want to change the color of. Then you can either click on a color on the palette, or select one of the basic colors available on the right. Click OK to make your selection appear on the chart. Once you have all the colors set how you want, make sure to right-click on the chart and select 'Save Preferences', to make sure the chart always opens that way.

E-mini Market Hours
Click here for a full size image Chart E-minis with the normal market hours of 9:30am-4:15pm, or with the extended hours of 7:00am-5:15pm that includes pre-market and post-market data.
Viewing Values of Analyses
Click here for a full size image You can see what specific value an analysis has at a specific time with the Current Values Panel or the Historical Summary Panel.

The Current Values Panel displays the values of the graph and analyses of what your mouse is pointing. To show/hide the panel, right-click, check/uncheck "Current Values Panel".

The Historical Summary Panel shows a summary for every period on the chart. To show/hide the panel, right-click, check/uncheck "Historical Summary Panel".

To see the Current Last Trade on the graph, right-click, go to 'Floating Price' and select either 'Highlight Text' or 'Highlight Background', or you may disable this feature by selecting 'Off'.
Printing  
Click here for a full size image Should you wish to archive your analysis, we have included a handy print feature that works in conjunction with your Internet browser.
  1. Right Click
  2. Select 'Print' - a new browser window will appear in a few seconds
  3. From this browser window, select 'File' > 'Print'
 
To add/remove exchanges or applications to/from your existing account, please use "My Account" option on your E-Gate menu.
