Symbol Entry Help

When entering symbols into the E-Gate applets, it is not necessary to add any suffixes based on exchange. The only modifiers required are for Country Code. If you do not know the symbol of the company you wish to see, use the Symbol Lookup on the E-Gate menu.

United States

This is the default country, so you do not need to specify a Country Code when entering US symbols. For example:

Microsoft : MSFT
International Business Machines : IBM
Nasdaq 100 Tracking Stock : QQQQ

When entering options, you must enter the symbol with the root separated from the month and price code by a space. Options symbols can be found using the Option Chain. For example:

Microsoft April 25 Call : MQF DE

For an exchange specific quote, enter the symbol with the exchange code as a suffix. The Exchange Codes can be found on the right-click menu of the Portfolio:

IBM (NYSE only) : IBM_N

Canada

When entering Canadian symbols, you MUST add a country code CA; (a semi-colon after CA) to the beginning of the symbol. No suffix is needed to indicate TSX or TSX Venture. All symbols are unique across the country. For example:

Nortel Networks : CA;NT
Imagis Technologies : CA;NAB

UK

When entering UK symbols, you MUST add a country code GB; (a semi-colon after GB) to the beginning of the symbol. No suffixes are needed to indicate LSE or SETS. For example:

Vodafone : GB;VOD

MENA (Middle East North Africa)

When entering MENA symbols, you MUST add a country code (Dubai - AE; Bahrain - BH; Kuwait - KW; Saudi Arabia - SA;) to the beginning of the symbol. No suffixes are needed. For example:

Dubai Index : AE;UDIX
Bahrain All Share Index : BH;BSEX
Gulf Bank of Kuwait : KW;GBK

Please enter the symbol followed by \, (a back-slash before a comma) then the series letter. For example:

Merrill Lynch Preferred B Stock : MER\,B

Income Trusts

Please use .UN at the end of the symbol. For example:

ARC Energy Trust : CA;AET.UN

Bonds/Debentures

For Bonds, please use the percent (%) sign after the equity symbol followed by the last two digits of the maturity year. For example:

GB;ZEIB%04

For Canadian Bonds or Debentures, please use the percent (%) sign after the equity symbol followed by the letter D. If there is a series letter for the bond/debenture, add that after the D. For example:

CA;WOLF%D
CA;BNP%DA

Warrants

Please use an apostrophe ( ' ) at the end of the symbol. For example:

Echo Bay Mines Warrant : ECO'

When Issued Stock

Please use an equals sign ( = ) after the equity symbol. This is for pending spinoffs from existing stocks. For example:

Merrill Lynch When Issued Stock : MER= (This example may no longer be valid since When Issued stocks are temporary and do not last long)

When using futures, to get the forward contract quote, enter the symbol with .1 after it. For example:

The forward contract for the S&P 500 Emini : @ES.1
